Walks in the Yorkshire countryside

The walks are typically circular walks of around 5 miles in length. They cover a variety of surfaces and gradients and walking boots are recommended. Some paths may be slippery after rain or in cold winter weather. Conditions can change during a walk and a waterproof jacket is recommended at most times of the year. The paths are not suitable for push-chairs or wheelchairs, nor for very young children or people with mobility difficulties. On the other hand, keen walkers may find them rather short; some neighbouring routes may be combined to provide a longer walk.

About Peter's Walks

Peter's Walks are mostly circular walks of about 5 miles, to the north and east of York, UK. They were originally walked by a small group, on a Sunday, followed by a pub lunch. Many may have been published elsewhere but, except where mentioned, the routes have been found by looking at a map and walking the paths.

Location and route maps

Location maps show the starting points and route maps show the numbered points listed in the Directions. It is recommended that you use the appropriate Ordnance Survey "Explorer" map and/or the OS Maps "app" in conjunction with the directions which you may download in Portable Document Format (as .pdf files).
