M 07 NW of Huggate: Map and directions
Route M 07 – Frendal Dale, Pasture Dale and Wolds Way near Huggate
The walk is about 5¾ miles with some moderate gradients and shares parts of the route with M 06
and M 09. The route goes through wooded valleys, along the bottoms and the top edges of grass pasture valleys and through productive crop fields on the plateau between the Wolds valleys. This walk was chosen, not for the glimpses of long distance views to the east, but for the variety of landscape typical of the Wolds. An alternative starting point is at point 6, but the chosen starting point is better for car parking. There are not significant areas of mud unless after heavy rain.

Walk Directions
1. From the road junction near the car parking place (map ref 856568), take the bridleway track (Chalkland Way) opposite the incoming road. Enter a wood and after 200m, take the waymarked bridleway that descends out of the wood and along a grass path at the bottom of a small valley then into a wood as a track that meets the original track where the small valley joins the larger Greenwick Dale. [700m]
2. (850564) Turn left and follow Chalkland Way along the bottom of the wooded valley that becomes Tun Dale. Where the wood on the right ends, emerge through a gate into a grass valley that bends left to join Frendal Dale. [1100m]
3. (853554) At the junction of valleys, turn right along Frendal Dale for about ¾ mile, passing through two gates along the way. At the end of the Dale, where it meets Pasture Dale, go through a two gates to a road. [1200m]
4. (850544) Cross the road (slightly left and right) to a continuation of Chalkland Way on the other side, then uphill on a narrow path, through a gate and to another gate overlooking Nettle Dale. Go through the gate and turn left onto a bridleway (Yorkshire Wolds Way) that climbs along the left side of Nettle Dale and then with a wood on the right, turns left through a gate at the end of the wood to run along another edge of the wood to a gate at the top edge of Pasture Dale. 5. (853545) Turn right along the top of Pasture Dale and continue for about ¾ mile to meet a road just beyond a small area off woodland on the right. [1250m]
6. (865547) Turn left onto the road for 150m to a road junction. Cross the road and take the bridleway opposite (Yorkshire Wolds Way). Follow this bridleway along field edges for 900m then right on a track for 150m to a road. [1200m]
7. (866557) Cross the road and follow a farm drive for 500m to a junction of paths where the track bends right to Glebe Farm. Turn left along a field edge path for 300m then left along another field edge to a gate above Horse Dale. [800m]
8. (870562) Go through the gate and turn left along the top of the valley then downhill into the dale, go through a gate and bend slightly left then right up a small valley to a gate. Go through the gate and along field edges for 900m to meet a tarmac drive (to Wold House farm). [total 1250m]
9. (862569) Turn left onto the drive for 450m to a road then right onto the road for 250m to the road junction near to the car-parking place. [total 700m]
